I discussed "free roulette" the other day in another article, but I
wanted to return to the topic. I may have sounded harsh about the roulette
free software games, though I emphasized there were good resources for
learning how to play without the download, and shopping around to see which
casinos you want to play at.

As an example, here's the free roulette simulation at Bodog. This is exactly the same as other simulated roulette I've found online, though Bodog starts you at the more conventional $500 (other games up to $5000). This is a good tool to help you get up to speed about online roulette, especially if you're considering playing the wheels at Bodog casino, because it's going to look similar what you play at the real casino.

That's exactly right, too. While I've played a number of other casino's
roulette free games, I had never played Bodog's free roulette. So I decided
to try an experiment.

So I get $500 in Bodog Monopoly money for the roulette practice game, and I decided I would be aggressive to the point of being foolhardy (at times). I made several quick bets where I wagered over half of my bankroll, to see if this was one of those games I was assured of winning. My charge the other day was the game was (essentially) rigged to let people win the free games, in order to lure them in to depositing money in the real casino games, where the odds are not in their favor.
Within the first 5 to 10 spins of the wheel betting the 12-number bets, I was already in trouble. I had under $100 to wager at this point, so my bets had to dwindle in size. Betting roughly 1/2 to 2/3rds of my bankroll on each 2-to-1 spin, I reached an equilibrium where I kept losing, but won just enough to keep me in the game.
Getting suspicious, I decided to start betting my entire bankroll (or close to it, depending on utter whim), especially after one set of wagers got me up in the $150 range again. Once again, I played the "1st 12" bet over and over again, simply for the sake of speed and convenience. This did not go well, and I eventually busted out.
Bodog Free Roulette - Real Roulette Simulation
It turns out that Bodog's game is a real roulette simulation, but played for free. You can bust out and lose all your money, if you try hard enough. It's not set up to assure you're going to win in the hopes of juicing you up for sucker bets on the money games of roulette.
While that doesn't preclude that free roulette offers betting odds than roulette for money on Bodog--I was making insane gambles--it does assure that a player isn't playing some fantasy Hollywood-type game of roulette, where the all-or-nothing bets always win. I wanted to give Bodog props for that fact, at least.

I stand by my statement in general, though. Many of the online free roulette games are rigged to let you win big. The obvious reason to do this is to convince you roulette is easy and winnable, so you should deposit money in their casino. A couple of the sites I played on the other day, a pop-up appeared every third spin (or so) and asked if I wanted to deposit money. With Bodog, I only got that prompt after I busted out, and I was also given the option for another free game of roulette.
I can't speak for all the free roulette apps out there, because there are too many for any one gambler to try. But if you want a good roulette simulation that teaches you how to play roulette online, I recommend the Bodog free roulette game as a good option. You'll learn how to make a bet, adjust your bets, clear your choices, and re-spin. You'll also learn exactly what a roulette game online looks like.

I'll finish by stating that online gamblers who are studying where to play or how to play on the Internet should use the free roulette games--or free casino games of any type--to test-drive the software and learn how to play. Free games are fun to play, at least until you figure out what you're doing and are ready to play roulette for real money. Ultimately, gambling is where the thrill is at, or you might as well be playing Desktop Tower Defense.
