Roulette Payouts
Roulette payouts are easy to remember, because they all hover just under
the number of chances you have to win. If you are betting on one of the 36
numbers, you get 35-to-1 odds. If you are betting on either the 1st 18 or
2nd 18, then you get 17-to-1 odds on a payout. The payout formula is
consistent down the board.
On this page, I'll discuss the payouts in roulette, and how that can be converted to the house edge with a simple mathematical formula. This is also a good way for you to check my math, so you're assured I know what I'm talking about. As they say, always do the math.
Payouts in Roulette
- 35-to-1 Payout - Straight Bet (1 number)
- 17-to-1 Payout - Split Bet (2 numbers)
- 11-to-1 Payout - Street Bet (3 numbers)
- 8-to-1 Payout - Corner Bet (4 numbers)
- 6-to-1 Payout - Basket Bet (5 numbers)
- 5-to-1 Payout - Six-Line Bet/Doublestreet Bet (6 numbers)
- 2-to-1 Payout - Twelve Bet (12 numbers)
- 1-to-1 Payout - Even/Odd Bet, Red/Black Bet, 1-18 or 19-36 Bet
On
a straight bet, winners get paid 35x your wager if you win, but the odds of
hitting on a straight bet are 37-to-1, which creates a house edge of 5.26%.
Most other bets in American roulette adhere to the same 5.26% cost
structure.
Getting Paid in Roulette
If you stay within the betting limit at the table, you can place multiple bets on a spin of the wheel. Since a number of roulette bets overlap numbers, there's a chance you could hit multiple times for the same number. In this case, you are paid out for each bet. Let me give an example.
Let's assume you put a $10 bet on even numbers (paying out at 1-to-1), a $10 bet on the "1st 12" (paying at 2-to-1), and a $10 bet on the #8 (paying at 35-to-1). Because "8" an even number and is among the first twelve, you're actually hitting on that number three times, and all three bets won are paid. You would win $10 on the even-number bet, $20 on the twelve bet, and $350 on the single-number bet, for a whopping $380.
Of course, you're only going to hit on the $350 bet 1-out-of-38 times. Imagine you're betting $10 every spin on the #8 and the odds fall exactly as you might expect. You would have to wager $380 to win $350, so the casino still wins in the long run, unless there is significant variance.
Online Roulette Payouts
Those searching for "roulette payouts" might be interested in how they get paid by online casinos, so I wanted to address that issue quickly. Most Internet casinos offer between 5 and 10 withdrawal options. Since I've talked about it on here several times, I'll use English Harbour Casino as an example.
Roulette Payout Example - Online Money Withdrawal
English Harbour Casino offers 8 payout options: Bank-Wire, check by number, QuickCash, E-Check, Use-My-Wallet, Click2Pay, EcoCard, and Moneybookers. Most of these are online money transfer companies which appeared to handle online transactions of these sorts, and several specialize in online gambling. Each has its own procedure and time allotted for getting gamblers their money.
For example, UseMyWaller, Click-2-Pay, Money Bookers, and Eco Card all have a minimum payout limit of $30 and a maximum payout per week of $5,000, and their is no transaction fee (free). EcoCard and Use-My-Wallet process the same day you make the request, Moneybookers is instant (if you have a funded Moneybookers account), but Click-2-Pay only makes transactions the same day if they are submitted by 2pm Eastern Standard Time. Also, Click2Pay and Moneybookers only transfer money to players outside the United States.
Online Transaction Fee - Casino Payouts
E-Check credits you bank account within 2 to 4 days, with a $35 transaction fee, with a minimum transaction of $100 and a maximum of $2,500 per week. eCheck also makes transaction on Monday through Friday (sounds like a less desirable option). Quick-Cash also has a $35 transaction fee with a $300 minimum and an $850 maximum per week, and has a delivery time of 24 to 48 hours. Furthermore, during certain peak times, funds may not be available through QuickCash, and they suggest you talk to their Payouts Team is you have further questions (Quick-Cash doesn't sound very quick, and may not have the cash).
Check-by-Customer has a fee of $35, a minimum transaction of $100, and a maximum of $3,000 every 72 hours, with payouts Monday through Friday. Finally, Bankwire has a $35 fee, a $500 minimum, and a $5000 max withdrawal per week. In this case, funds are wired directly to your bank account within 2 to 5 days. Also, your first withdrawal is going to require special scrutiny by the Security Department of English Harbour (and most other legitimate online casino websites), so it will be an additional 5 to 10 business days for the first payout transaction.
This is just one example, but it shows that it not only pays to shop for the best casino payout options when gambling on online roulette, but there is a major difference from one electronic money transfer service to the next. Read through the online casino's payout options to save yourself time, money, and aggravation. With the best online casinos, though, there's transparency in how they do business, so the speed of your electronic roulette payouts should come as no surprise.
